Monkey Fist Floating Keychain
Monkey Fist Floating Keychain
This large monkey's fist will float with 2 keys attached and is perfect for holding your boat keys.
Made with #108 cotton cord tied around a ping pong ball. It measures 6 inches long and the ball is 2 inches across.
Monkey’s Fists are a traditional knot used as weight at the end of a heaving line. The heaving line is used to pull the dock line to the pier. This key chain emulates that nautical style so your boat keys can be kept afloat with a nod to historical boating customs.
Matt grew up tying knots.
Matt's grandfather, Alton Beaudoin, opened their family knot shop in 1957 out of their house in Old Mystic, Connecticut. In 1996 Alton handed the business down to Matt and Matt continued catering to the faithful customers that I had known my whole life.
In 2008 Matt left his corporate job after nine years to follow his passion and turn his grandfather's dream into a reality. Matt changed the name from Beaudoin's Rope Locker to Mystic Knotwork, as it is known today, and he launched the business online.
They worked for eight years to rebuild the business from my house, through the Velvet Mill in Stonington, Connecticut, to opening to the public in Mystic. Their team expanded from the family to include artisans from diverse creative backgrounds. In early 2015, they found their workshop, a destination originally used for sail and rigging repair over 100 years ago and in Historic Downtown Mystic. When you step into the shop overlooking the Mystic River, you will see constant creation of the handmade knots in our store, as well as museum quality works that make up a part of my family's history.
